Sofitel Moorea Ia Ora Beach Resort
Moorea was the 2nd stop of our French Polynesia honeymoon. The Sofitel has a modern decor with a Tahitian flair. The hotel looks quite newly renovated. We booked the garden bungalow for our stay here. The room itself is nice and spacious.
I love the “outdoor” shower with the glass door. When we arrive, we felt that our room had a little bit of smell, as if that particular room has not been occupied for days…or week(s). It was raining really hard that day so it would be too inconvenient to try and change room, so we asked them to change our sheets since they smelled a little bit, and they did. Other than that, the room was great.
My husband and I LOVE the breakfast buffet at the Sofitel. They have the best chocolate croissant (and if you come early when they open, the croissants are still warm! We usually split an entree for lunch and it’s enough for both of us. They always provide a bread basket for breakfast/lunch/dinner, so we’re almost always full.
Service is not bad. I was worried after reading about the slow service, but really it’s not that bad. I mean, we’re on our honeymoon and people are on vacation, so I don’t see the need to rush.
There is an infinity pool onsite, the size is not too big but it’s still nice. Snorkeling onsite is not that great. We tried snorkeling but the water was not very clear. Maybe because it was raining the day before?
While in Moorea, we did the Tiki Village and ATV with Albert Tour. Tiki Village was just ok, I felt it was a little too touristy and made up. But the ATV tour was SO MUCH FUN! I think the ATV tour was definitely our most favorite activity while in French Polynesia. We booked directly with Albert and the rate was cheaper than booking via hotel.
One minor thing with the hotel, the checkout process was VERY slow (their credit card system was down), and we were afraid that we were going to miss our transfer to the airport. But other than that, we had a very enjoyable stay at the Sofitel and would definitely recommend it!
