Mykonos

Petasos Beach Hotel & Spa

My husband and I stayed at this lovely resort for 3 nights in May 2011. Mykonos was our first stop of our Greece trip. The hotel provided free airport/port shuttle transfer if you book the hotel directly with them. But if you don’t book directly with them, they will charge 14 euros per person for the return trip.

We booked the standard room which has a nice size balcony and views overlooking the pool and ocean. Our room was room 150, which was very close to the reception area (we didn’t mind it). The bathroom was tiny but we managed. Room overall was a bit on the smaller side but the wonderful balcony made up for it. The decor was simple, beach, minimalistic style.

The receptionists were all very nice and helpful with suggesting activities. Breakfast buffet was included in the price of room which was nice. They serve the same menu everyday but selection was pretty good. They served this wonderful pastry filled with sweet custard that left me craving and searching for it during the rest of our Greece trip. Their breakfast area is very lovely overlooking the water.

The pool area is beautiful, however the water was not heated and in May and was freezing. The hotel is located in Platys Gialos, around 10 minutes by bus to town. The bus runs every 2 hours but it probably runs more frequently in the summer. The bus stop is just in front of the hotel and it’s 1.60 euro one way. You can buy ticket from the small grocery store next to the hotel. If you want to be able to walk to town and be in the middle of everything, then it might be better to stay in town.

There are around 5-6 restaurants within walking distance from the hotel, mostly offering similar menus. Each restaurant will have a host that will try to get you to eat at their restaurant. Some places offer free appetizer or dessert. In front of the restaurants, there were sunbeds setup on the beach which were free to use provided that you buy drink/food from the restaurant.

Suggested Activities:

  • Walk around Mykonos town – it is is beautiful; and lots of cafes offer free wi fi which is great.

  • Visit one of the many beautiful beaches around Mykonos

  • Rent an ATV to drive around town. So much fun!

  • If you are into history, visit Delos to see the ruins.
